Euromilhões, Jogos Santa Casa's flagship game, will in 2007 be the main sponsor of the Lisbon-Dakar Rally for the second year running.

After achieving all the objectives it set out when the decision was taken to sponsor the previous year's competition, Jogos Santa Casa has renewed its "Title Sponsor" contract through Euromilhões (Euromillions).

Euromilhões' main objectives in associating itself with this legendary sporting competition and its key values – adventure, excentricity and solidarity – were to strengthen and consolidate awareness of Euromilhões as a brand of excellence, to achieve leverage in terms of Jogos Santa Casa's profile and sales and to win over new segments of the market. These objectives were achieved in the first Lisbon-Dakar: Euromilhões's sales, and those of Jogos Santa Casa in general, were positively influenced by the promotions and other communication events associated with the sponsorship.

A marketing survey has also shown that Euromilhões and Jogos Santa Casa's image was clearly strengthened, particularly among younger segments of players.

"Given the huge success of the 1st Portuguese edition of this sporting event in terms of the national and international coverage it attracted, and the fact that all the social and economic objectives defined for sponsorship of the Lisbon-Dakar were achieved, this was a bet that paid off. In view of this, JSC is repeating its participation in this collective enterprise, which has caught the imagination of the whole country. We believe this is no less than the Portuguese people, who responded so positively to the brand's sponsorship of the 2006 race, expect of us," said Daniel Galvão Martins, president of the Games Department of SCML.

As in the previous Rally, the fact that Euromilhões is the "Title Sponsor" of the Lisbon-Dakar secures it a series of benefits in terms of visibility of the brand on all the media and materials used in the competition. An action plan of exclusive activities to strengthen the brand's positioning, particularly in terms of its social values, will be announced shortly and will be implemented in coordination with the organisation and the other event partners.

BFGoodrich and the Dakar - 15 years of passion

On December 26, 1978, a convoy of 170 adventurers set off from the Place du Trocadero, near the Eiffel Tower in Paris, for a 10,000 km trek across Algeria, Niger, Mali and Upper Volta to the Senegalese capital Dakar. On January, 2008, many hundreds of crews will line up for the 30th anniversary Dakar Rally. After securing its first success on the event in 1993, the tyre brand BFGoodrich is proud to be an official supplier of what has become the world's most famous rally-raid.

The paths of the Dakar Rally and BFGoodrich first crossed fifteen years ago and have continued together for half the event's 30-year history. The relationship dates back in fact to 1993 and Jean-Louis Schlesser's win in the two-wheel drive category with a Buggy competing on the American brand's tyres. BFGoodrich has since made the Dakar its own Grail, going on to claim eight outright wins between 1999 and 2007, including six in a row with Mitsubishi.

The Dakar and BFGoodrich have so much in common. The marathon event was dreamt up by French adventurer Thierry Sabine when he was lost in the Libyan desert in 1977. That same year saw the BFGoodrich tyre brand – which was founded by the American pioneer Benjamin Franklin Goodrich – take its first laurels in the Baja 500 and the Baja 1000, the USA's best-known off-road competitions.

EUROMASTER: OUR ACTION ON DAKAR

This year Euromaster rises above the 10 years of partnership with the most famous rally all over the world. This beautiful marriage, which celebrated its tin wedding last year, has for secret an unfailing fidelity.

It was in 1997 that this beautiful story began and that Euromaster made its contribution to this great event.

Since 10 years, The Euromaster Roadside Assistance trucks are located among the competitors during two weeks. The 10 technicians of the Euromaster Roadside Assistance ensure FREELY all the operations of assembly, disassembly or repair of tyres in all the bivouacs.

Each year, they carry out an incredible work that is worthy of real professionals. The rising rate of participation entails records of intervention.

Talking figures:

  • 2004: 1.780 interventions in all and 102 a day on average
  • 2005: BEATEN RECORD! With 1937 interventions in all and 176 a day on average
  • 2006: BEATEN RECORD! With 2657 interventions in all and 242 a day on average
  • In 2006, the rest day was striking with 809 interventions realized against 500 as a general rule.

These technicians are contracted by a system of spontaneous applications in its outlets throughout Europe.

They have for characteristic to have, apart from their competences in tyres, more than one string to theirs bows. Some speak several languages, have knowledge in welding, mechanics and electricity.

They are a famous presence which is always appreciated by the competitors and shown by a work achieved under extreme conditions.
