The Dakar in numbers
- Since 1979, some 13 600 men and women have participated in the Dakar.
- The crossing of a continent, Africa (21 different countries crossed in 29 editions).
- In 2007, 245 motorcycles, 180 cars, 85 trucks have started the Euromilhoes Lisboa Dakar.
- The Dakar is also a competition open to everyone with the participation of both professionals (20 %) and amateurs (80 %).
- It is an event with an enormous turnover: 40 % of new competitors each year in moto and 20 % in auto.
- In 2007, competitors from the 4 corners of the globe participate; 43 different nationalities were represented: 70 % foreign participation and 30 % French participation.
- One million spectators followed the Dakar in Portugal in 2007
