Laurent Lazard: «It takes several years to ride well »
32nd overall on his first attempt, 36th on his second: there are many who would gladly settle for these kinds of results. But Laurent Lazard views these positions on his first two Dakars as decent results that need to be improved as soon as possible. “I would like to crack the top 25. I played it safe on my first two Dakars and now I feel more confident”. Born in France, this naturalized Uruguayan trains in France with David Casteu speaks humbly when evoking the Dakar. “When I came to this race, I thought I knew something about motorcycling…but in fact, I was a true novice. It was mentally very difficult on the final stages. You get tired, after finishing a stage you have to prepare your road book for the following one….once I was so mentally drained I began to cry, but physically I was fine!” This organiser of adventure raids in Patagonia didn’t enjoy his first Dakar experience. “I was just happy to have finished this nightmare: It was easier the second time. The Dakar is really like a school. It takes several years to ride well. I also adore the desert, the dunes, and the freedom of the wide open spaces. I’m like a kid, I scream when we make our way through these areas”.
