Jean De Azevedo: «I am ready for a very hard Dakar »
Not far from Sao Paulo, Jean De Azevedo lives in his refuge. At Sao Paulo dos Campos, he can forget the fury of the motors and dedicate his time to his family. When you are a professional racer, you need this sort of neutral space to recover and prepare for new assaults. What he likes most when away from his job is to travel with his family, including his three year old daughter. He like the fact that there is so much more to discover in his home country of Brazil. At 33 years of age, he wants to take advantage of this exceptional territory, as he has already done in the region close to his home with family escapades to Chile and Argentina, to be close to the snow and do a bit of skiing. In his other life, Jean de Azevedo still dreams with the same energy of the Dakar. He has taken part eight times in the past 12 years. His 25th place result was not satisfying. He thus comes back with a stronger than ever desire and the same objective: the top ten and if at all possible the top five. “I was really disappointed with my 2007 result but I had an electrical problem during the seventh stage and I was stopped in the desert for nine hours! But it is forgotten. I have done some good test riding and the new KTM is very solid, not so much in terms of the suspension but more so with the chassis and power…and the sand suits me very well.” Jean de Azevedo, who finished an impressive sixth on the last Dubai Rally, is recharged and ready to go for it. “This Dakar will be hard. There will be a lot of sand and some long special stages but I am ready”.
