Marek Dabrowski: «Approach my best result »
For the past several years Marek Dabrowski has entered the Dakar in less than perfect shape. Last year he set off from Lisbon just barely recovered from a leg injury, but that didn’t stop him from finishing 24th overall. This year, the Polish rider arrives in Portugal with an injured hand suffered while racing off road in Chile. Marek freely admits that “it will be hard to beat my best result on the Dakar” (9th overall in 2003).
But Marek Dabrowski is first and foremost an admirer of Africa and the Dakar. A motorcycle enthusiast and a hard nosed type of guy. Like in years past, he will clench his teeth. And while his Dakar start / finish ratio remains very good (5/7), this business owner applies the advice he offers to rookies: don’t take risks and ride at just 50% of your capacity while giving a good think to race tactics…because this wily veteran knows far too well that the Dakar is a race by elimination. Many competitors that he overtakes are simply stopped along the side of the tracks adding to the ranks of those who were either unlucky or didn’t pay enough attention. Economize the equipment and keep the speed for the end that is Marek Dabrowski’s secret to success.
